How to Create an Accessible Wetroom?

It is estimated that more than 14 million people in the UK are disabled. Having a disability can make simple daily tasks a challenge. Fortunately, there is a vast growing range of accessible products out there to suit everyone's needs, making daily tasks a lot easier and safer. These simple benefits can have a huge impact on the user's experiences, making the space more practical, safe, and giving them as much independence as possible.

Grab Rails:

One of the simplest and most important modifications needed in any accessible wetroom is Grab Rails. They offer much-needed stability to its user, and allows them to safely manoeuvre around the space.

It is important to install these in the main areas of the room, such as the shower, sink basin and next to the toilet. Our Grab Rails are also available in the colour blue and grey, to better assist those that are visually impaired or struggle with dementia. You can also purchase retractable Grab Rails that are ideal for use next to the toilet, as they take up less space and can easily and efficiently be pulled down from the wall when needed.

Check out the different kinds of grab rails we have for you and find the perfect solution for your home, whether it be a Chrome Angled Grab Bar or the AKW Serise 1800 Folding Grab Rail

Space:

When planning your wetroom, space is an important consideration. Although wetrooms can be installed in just about any size room, different users might need a larger space to safely and easily navigate the wetroom.

For instance, a wheelchair user will need more space than the average user to make the room accessible to their needs. When it comes to installing other features around the room, evaluate if there is enough space to utilize these features while still being able to easily travel through the wetroom. We offer both retractable Shower Seats and Grab Rails to help save space, allowing you to pull them down where needed.

Shower Seats:

Shower Seats are a brilliant must-have item for any wetroom design, offering comfort, safety and stability to its users while showering.

Standing for prolonged periods of time can be difficult for those with mobility issues and heat intolerances etc. Shower Seats are the perfect companion and can offer side transfers where needs be. Our Shower Seats are available in the colours blue and grey, to better assist those that are visually impaired or struggle with dementia.

Take a look at our wide range of shower seats, chairs, stools and toilet seats we have on offer today including the popular AKW 4000 Serise Fold Up Wall Mounted Padded Blue Shower Seat to give you the support and confidence you deserve.

Level Access Shower / Ramps:

Level-access showers are perfect for those that are wheelchair users and/ or have limited mobility, as they remove the need to raise your legs, to step in and out of the shower. However, in the scenario that you do not have a Level-Access shower, ramps are available to easily transfer someone in a wheelchair safely to the shower unit.

Detachable Shower Heads & Portable Shower Screens:

Detachable shower heads are perfect for people that sit in the shower or enlist the help and support of a loved one or carer. This makes washing easier for everyone involved. Also adding a Transportable Shower Screen, means you don't have to worry about water escaping throughout your wetroom, and allows a water barrier between the user and carer, meaning the carer doesn't have to worry about splashback issues or getting too wet.

The doorway to the wetroom may need to be enlarged so that it is wide enough for a wheelchair user to access without feeling limited or worrying about scrapping the doorframe upon entrance and exit.

We offer a range of portable shower screens ranging in various sizes to suit individual needs, such as the AKW Freeway Portable Shower Screens.

Anti-slip Flooring:

Slips and trips are a common danger within a wetroom/bathroom setting. Eliminating this risk is important and therefore makes Anti-slip flooring a must in any wetroom design.

Having a wet slippery floor can be problematic for anyone, but is particularly dangerous and hazardous for those that are frail or have limited mobility. Installing Anti-Slip flooring can give peace of mind to both the users and their loved ones, allowing them to retain their independence for longer.
